O’brien / Doughty Residence
Logan Circle, Washington, DC

2001 Residential Renovation
size: 2,200 sf

Working with a limited budget, this dark, split-level rowhouse was transformed into an inviting light filled home. The client directed the architect to design a flowing open plan, one that connected the various parts of the house both visually and acoustically. A new skylight above allows sunlight to fall on the new open-riser stairs at the center of the house. These stairs allow views throughout the house. The third floor is now an open loft space and the master bedroom. A curved steel-clad wall defines bathroom and walk-in closet.
